[FWO][HORIZON EUROPE] European Partnership EP BrainHealth 2026: Major New Calls for Brain Research with FWO Support
EP Brainhealth Partnership
As part of Horizon Europe’s institutionalised partnerships, EP BrainHealth unites over 30 national and regional funding agencies, research organisations and ministries to address neurological, mental, sensory and neurodegenerative disorders. The partnership strengthens scientific coordination, integrates knowledge across disciplines, and accelerates translation from research to clinical and societal impact.
What are the 2026 calls?
The 2026 Work Programme features two Joint Transnational Calls (JTCs):
- JTC on Neurological, Mental and Sensory Disorders
This call targets interdisciplinary research on mechanisms, risk factors, disease trajectories and interventions that improve outcomes across mental health, neurological and sensory functions. - JTC on Neurodegenerative Disorders
This call supports projects advancing mechanistic understanding, biomarkers, diagnostics and therapeutic strategies for conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and related neurodegenerative diseases.
Consortia must consist of at least three independent research groups from three different participating countries, and typically involve 3–6 partners.
Co-Funding: Relevance for FWO
The Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) is an official funder in EP BrainHealth. This means Flemish research groups can join EP BrainHealth consortia and receive FWO-administered funding for their participation—provided they meet FWO eligibility criteria (to be published in the national annex of each call). The co-funding structure ensures that each partner receives funding directly from their own national agency.
Timeline
- Call opening: 8 January 2026
- Proposal deadlines: March 2026 (exact dates per call to be confirmed)
