[WECOM] Pitch jouw onderzoek voor een wetenschappelijke documentaire op DOCVILLE 2027 | Pitch your research for a scientific documentary at DOCVILLE 2027!
Wat is DOCVILLE?
Voor het derde jaar op rij organiseert het documentaire filmfestival DOCVILLE een traject waarbij onderzoekers en filmmakers met elkaar in contact worden gebracht, en kans maken op een productiebudget van minstens 40.000€. Daarmee maken ze vervolgens tegen festivaleditie 2027 een creatieve auteursdocumentaire over een wetenschappelijk thema.
Naast UGent doen dit jaar ook KU Leuven, Universiteit Antwerpen, UHasselt en VUB mee. Vaste partners zijn VRT Canvas, FWO en departement Economie, Wetenschap & Innovatie.
Jouw pitch
Wil jij met jouw onderzoek kans maken om te schitteren in een volledig gefinancierde wetenschappelijke documentaire? Stuur dan jouw geschreven pitch (in het Nederlands of Engels) op via dit online formulier ten laatste op 16 januari 2026.
In deze pitch:
- geef je een samenvatting van jouw onderzoek (in lekentaal)
- toon je de relevantie van jouw onderzoek voor de maatschappij aan
- overtuig je de jury waarom jouw onderzoek het waard is om een documentaire over te maken. Besteed hierbij zeker aandacht aan het visuele: wat kun jij tonen over jouw onderzoek?

Ondersteuning
Op 9 december 2025 is er om 9u een online infosessie over deze competitie. Neem deel via Teams.
Daarnaast bieden we de mogelijkheid om op 15 december 2025 (14u-16u) in Recto Verso 1, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 25, deel te nemen aan een live workshop om aan de slag te gaan met jouw geschreven pitch. Schrijf je hier in voor de workshop.
Vier genomineerden volgen begin maart een mediatraining van de Floor is Yours.
Selectieprocedure
De festivaldirecteur van DOCVILLE zal begin februari 2026 samen met een leescommissie van de UGent vier projecten selecteren die kunnen deelnemen aan de mediatraining begin maart. Daarna worden twee projecten geselecteerd die kunnen deelnemen aan de live pitch tijdens het DOCVILLE-festival op maandag 23 maart 2026.
Meteen na de live pitch, krijgen de genomineerde de kans om via speeddates een match te vinden tussen hun inhoudelijke en wetenschappelijke visie met de artistieke aanpak van een filmmaker, die op zijn/haar/hun beurt de jury dient te overtuigen van het filmproject in de loop van april 2026.
Uiteindelijk kiest de jury één of twee pitches waarmee de producent/director aan de slag gaat en een productiebudget ontvangt om de documentaires te realiseren, i.s.m. de gerelateerde onderzoekers en regisseurs. De documentaires gaan in première op DOCVILLE 2027.

What is DOCVILLE?
For the third year in a row, the documentary film festival DOCVILLE organises a process in which researchers and filmmakers are brought into contact with each other and have a chance to win a production budget of at least 40,000€. With this they then make a creative author's documentary on a scientific theme by festival edition 2027.
Besides Ghent University, KU Leuven, University of Antwerp and VUB are also participating this year. Permanent partners are VRT Canvas, FWO and Department of Economics, Science & Innovation.
Your pitch
Do you want your research to have a chance to star in a fully-funded scientific documentary? Then submit your written pitch (in Dutch or English) via this online form no later than 16 January 2026.
In this pitch, you give a summary of your research (in Dutch or English):
- give a summary of your research (in layman's terms)
- demonstrate the relevance of your research for society
- convince the jury why your research is worth making a documentary about. Be sure to pay attention to the visual: what can you show about your research?

We also offer the opportunity to participate in a live workshop on 15 December 2025 (14h-16h) in Recto Verso 1, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 25, to get started with your written pitch. Enrol for the workshop here.
Four nominees will attend a media training session of the Floor is Yours in early March.
Selection procedure
The DOCVILLE festival director, together with a reading committee of Ghent University, will select four projects that can participate in the media training at the beginning of March . Two projects will then be selected that can participate in the live pitch during the DOCVILLE festival on Monday 23 March 2026.
Immediately after the live pitch, the nominees will have the chance to find a match between their content and scientific vision with the artistic approach of a filmmaker through speed dates, who in turn must convince the jury of the film project during April 2026.
In the end, the jury will choose one or two pitches that the producer/director will work with and receive a production budget to realise the documentaries, i.c.w. the related researchers and directors. The documentaries will premiere at DOCVILLE 2027.
