[FWO][PRIJS] Oproep/Call Nokia Bell Scientific Award

Geachte onderzoeker,
Het Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen (FWO) en het Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique-FNRS (F.R.S.-FNRS) reiken jaarlijks de Nokia Bell Scientific Award uit voor de beste en meest originele doctoraatsthesis in het domein van informatie- en communicatietechnologie.
De prijs bedraagt € 8.000 en bekroont een PhD-thesis die een baanbrekende bijdrage levert binnen één van de volgende thema’s
- Artificial and connected intelligence, Artificial intelligence assisted software development, Decentralized/Trustless and secure Software Systems, Edge and cloud computing, Fixed and wireless communication, Optical communication, Signal processing, AI-native, autonomous and mission-critical networks.
Wie komt in aanmerking?
De prijs is bedoeld voor een individuele onderzoeker die tussen 1 januari 2025 en 31 december 2025 een PhD-titel behaalde aan een Belgische universiteit (of de Koninklijke Militaire School), én die op de datum van indiening actief is als onderzoeker aan een universiteit of onderzoeksinstituut. De onderzoeker mag niet werkzaam zijn bij Nokia Belgium of één van haar dochterondernemingen.
Hoe kan men zich kandidaat stellen?
Stuur het volledig ingevulde aanvraagformulier (in het Engels), samen met uw cv, een volledige publicatielijst én een elektronische versie van uw thesis, uiterlijk op 16 maart 2026 door naar prijzen@fwo.be. Het reglement en het aanvraagformulier zijn beide beschikbaar op de FWO-website.
Wij vragen u vriendelijk om deze oproep ruim te verspreiden binnen uw instelling en professioneel netwerk, zodat potentiële kandidaten op de hoogte zijn en zich tijdig kunnen aanmelden.

Dear researcher,
The Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), and the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique-FNRS (F.R.S.-FNRS) annually award the Nokia Bell Scientific Award for the best and most original doctoral thesis in the field of information and communication technology.
The prize amounts to € 8.000 and rewards a PhD thesis that makes a groundbreaking contribution in one of the following domains:
- Artificial and connected intelligence, Artificial intelligence assisted software development, Decentralized/Trustless and secure Software Systems, Edge and cloud computing, Fixed and wireless communication, Optical communication, Signal processing and AI-native, autonomous and mission-critical networks.
Who is eligible?
The prize is intended for an individual researcher who obtained a PhD degree between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025 at a Belgian university (or the Royal Military Academy), and who, at the time of submission, is active as a researcher at a university or research institute. The researcher must not be employed by Nokia Belgium or any of its subsidiaries.
How to apply?
Submit the fully completed application form (in English), together with your cv, a complete list of publications and an electronic version of your thesis, no later than 16 March 2026 to prijzen@fwo.be. The regulations and the application form are both available on the FWO-website.
