[WECOM] PhDone? Doe mee aan de Vlaamse PhD Cup! | Enter the Flemish PhD Cup!
Heb je in de afgelopen twee jaar je doctoraat afgerond? Dan daagt de PhD Cup je uit om je onderzoek met iedereen te delen: zonder voetnoten of specialistentaal, maar gebracht als een helder verhaal. Na een intensieve mediatraining volgt de ultieme test: “Kun jij de kern van je doctoraat in drie minuten uitleggen?”
Waarom deelnemen aan de Vlaamse PhD Cup?
- Unieke gratis mediatraining: geselecteerde deelnemers krijgen een intensieve communicatie- en mediatraining van vier dagen, inclusief 2 dagen bij de VRT. Je leert presenteren met impact, populairwetenschappelijk schrijven, camera- en interviewtechnieken en social mediaskills van o.a. Eos-journalist Kim Verhaeghe en VRT-weervrouw en wetenschapscommunicator Jacotte Brokken.
- Visibliteit voor jouw onderzoek: onze mediapartners Radio 1, Eos en jongerenplatform Ravage coveren de Vlaamse PhD Cup en de deelnemende onderzoekers. De acht finalisten krijgen de kans om een video van hun pitch op te nemen en de grote finale op 21 oktober zal via een livestream te volgen zijn.
- Mooie prijzen: De winnaar krijgt een voucher van 5.000 euro voor de Vlerick Business School, mag een video maken met de Universiteit van Vlaanderen en maakt kans op een boekdeal met Academia Press. De tweede en derde laureaat krijgen een cheque voor de SciComm Academy. Ook het publiek mag een publiekswinnaar kiezen, die naast de eer een artikel over zijn of haar onderzoek in Eos Magazine ziet verschijnen.

Did you obtain your PhD degree in the past two years? Then the Flemish PhD Cup challenges you to convey to the general public the insights of the doctoral research you have been working on for years! Not through an academic lecture but told as a compelling and comprehensible story for non-peers. After an intense mediatraining, you will face the ultimate test: can you explain the core of your PhD in just… three minutes?
Why participate in the Flemish PhD Cup?
- Unique free training: all 16 selected participants embark on a 4-day writing, presentation and media training, with two days at the public broadcaster VRT. The program involves ‘Presenting with impact', “Writing for non-peers”, camera- and interview training by Eos science journalist Kim Verhaeghe and VRT science communicator Jacotte Brokken, and many more.
- Visibility for your research: media partners Radio 1 and EOS cover the competition and report on the participating researchers. We will also record videos on the research of the 8 finalists. The finale on the 21st of October will be livestreamed.
- The award: the winner gets a €5.000 voucher for the Vlerick Business School, is invited to give a video-lecture at the “Universiteit van Vlaanderen” and gets the opportunity to publish a book with Academia Press.
The audience also gets to pick a winner. The research of the audience winner will be covered in Eos Magazine.
