[BOF] Oproep BOF Basisinfrastructuur | Call BOF Basic Research Equipment

Via het Bijzonder Onderzoeksfonds (BOF) ondersteunt de UGent driejaarlijks de aankoop van basisinfrastructuur met een maximale waarde van € 150.000 (BTW inclusief). De aanvrager(s) moet(en) kunnen aantonen dat deze infrastructuur essentieel is voor hun onderzoek (‘basis’) en dat een groot deel van de aanvragers (en hun onderzoeksgroepen) gebruik zal maken / steunen op beschikbaarheid van de infrastructuur (‘breed inzetbaar’).

Specifiek voor de alfa-faculteiten staat deze oproep ook open voor de verwerving en operationalisering van omvangrijke databestanden, bijv. gecommercialiseerde databanken, datacollectie via survey onderzoek of panelstudies.

Duurdere infrastructuur (> € 150.000) waarbij het surplus eventueel wordt gefinancierd door de aanvragende promotoren is niet toegestaan. Infrastructuur met een catalogusprijs van meer dan € 150.000 maar die door een reeds bedongen korting nog maximaal € 150.000 (incl. BTW) kost, is wel toegestaan.

Een voorstel tot de aanschaf van basisinfrastructuur moet gezien worden in het kader van het belang van de onderzoeksactiviteiten van de onderzoeksgroep. Dit moet blijken uit het onderzoek dat de onderzoeksgroep de jongste jaren gedaan heeft, de wetenschappelijke output ervan en uit de kredieten die men verwerft.

De relevantie van de gevraagde basisinfrastructuur binnen de context en strategie van de onderzoeksgroep aan de UGent, zal ook worden geëvalueerd. Hierbij ligt de nadruk  op:

1. 1. het basiskarakter van de gevraagde infrastructuur: is de uitrusting is essentieel voor een onderzoeksgroep om output te realiseren?
   2. de meerwaarde van de basisinfrastructuur voor de UGent: rendement, brede beschikbaarheid van de uitrusting, etc..
   3. de inzet van de infrastructuur in het kader van onderzoek/onderwijs/dienstverlening: er zal nauwgezet op worden toegezien dat de basisinfrastructuur hoofdzakelijk ingezet zal worden ten behoeve van onderzoeksdoeleinden en in mindere mate in het kader van onderwijsopdrachten en/of in het kader van dienstverlening.

Deadline: 28 juni 2022, 17u00 (Belgische tijd). Budget beschikbaar vanaf 15 december 2022.

Through this call Ghent University supports once every three years the purchase of basic research equipment with a maximum value of 150.000 euro (VAT incl.). The applicant(s) must demonstrate that the infrastructure is essential for their research (‘basic’) and that a large part of the applicants (and their research groups) will use/rely upon the availability of the infrastructure (‘widely used’).

Especially for the alpha-faculties, the call also provides the opportunity to purchase or implement large databases, such as commercial databases, data collections obtained through surveys or panel studies.

More expensive infrastructure (> €150.000) with the surplus possibly being financed by the applicant promotors is not permitted. However, infrastructure with a list price of more than €150.000 (VAT incl.) but which, as a result of a discount already negotiated, costs a maximum of €150.000 (VAT incl.) is permitted.

Proposals for the purchase of research equipment should be related to the activities of the research group in question. The importance of the research equipment should be demonstrated by referring to the group’s research activities and scientific output, and to the relevant funding that the researchers have acquired in the recent past.

The relevance of the requested basic research equipment within the context and strategy of the research group at Ghent University. This includes the following conditions:

1. 1. basic character of the requested research equipment: is the equipment essential for a research group to realize output?
   2. added value of the basic research equipment for Ghent University: efficiency, wide availability of the equipment for other researchers, etc..
   3. use of the basic research equipment for research/education/academic services: the purchased equipment has to be used mainly for research purposes and, to a lesser extent, in the context of teaching assignments or academic services.
