Ghent University has access to many e-books. You can find and read all of them in our catalogue if you follow these steps.
Make sure you are connected to the UGent network.
When you are connected, you will see this green light at the bottom of the library's catalogue:
If you're working on a desktop computer on campus, like a computer in the library, you are automatically connected to the UGentNet.
If you're working off campus, there are two ways to connect to the UGentNet:
- Log in on Athena and open a browser. Go to the library catalogue lib.ugent.be in this browser.
- Set up a VPN-connection and open a local browser.
Search/Find the e-book
Search for the e-book you want to consult by using search terms like author, subject, (parts of the) title, and so on. Click on the blue button "View online" next to the title. This button will take you to the website of the publisher.
Read and download the e-book
Once you're on the publisher's website, you can start reading the e-book. Sometimes, you can download (chapters of) the book so you can also consult the book offline.
- Some books have a limited license and can only be viewed by a certain number of people at the same time. If you are connected to the network but cannot open the book, this might be why. If you continue to have this problem, please contact email@example.com
- Some restrictions may also apply to how much of a book you can download (at the time). If you suspect an error, do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
