ProQuest is a portal of scientific databases. Ghent University has access to 17 databases:

You can easily search using the search bar, or refine your search directly via 'Advanced search' (e.g. language). In the search results, you can refine through the facets.

Access

This platform is only accessible within the Ghent University network. 

Search operators

• Use quotation marks to keep phrases together.
• You can use the Boolean operators AND OR NOT. By default, AND is put between different search terms.
• NEAR/x or N/x to leave a maximum of x words between search terms.
• PRE/x or P/x allows a maximum of x words between the 1st and 2nd terms.
• - counts as PRE/0
• ? represents 1 letter
• * represents 0-5 letters, because of this a maximum of 500 variants are searched. Truncation can only be done on the middle or end of a word, not on the beginning.

Export

You can use the 'Cite' button to directly generate one or more copy/paste references in the most common styles or download the RIS file to import into Endnote or Zotero. The 'Email' button allows you to choose to send the full text to yourself or to different people. You can also choose the citation style.

Alerts & saving of searches and publications

You can create your own account under 'My Research' so you can save and combine searches. Via 'Add to bookshelf', you can save articles and other publications, which you can then access In your 'Bookshelf'. 

You can also create alerts based on the search query. The frequency is up to you: from daily to once per quarter.

Tips

• In the search results, you have a chat window at the bottom left where you can contact the university library with questions/problems.
• The 'search tips' below the search bar on the home page can also get you started to obtain better search results.
